Alright already, so I skipped a month...

So, it's June already and I can hardly believe how fast time flies. I've been an absent blogger because of distractions. I have many many of them. I got my spinning wheel last month and I LOVE it. I find that I spin very fine singles and my plied yarn is a bit too twisty, but I suppose for socks that's not too bad. My husband is glad that I like my spinning wheel, because now he can watch baseball and I don't complain, because I'm less-than-half paying attention to the television. I'll have to post some pics of my work, which isn't that easy because I tend to give it away before I take pictures. Thank goodness for email!

Terrible at this!

So I thought I'd be on top of this blogging thing, but it went by the wayside for about a month. Meanwhile I've finished the socks that were making my brain hurt, and I think my sister loves them. There's something to be said for a hand-made piece of clothing that was tailored specifically to an individual.

I have now started on a pair of super-warm slipper socks for my mom, and they're my first toe-up socks. I still haven't gotten to the heel part (I'm a little nervous about that, but I guess I figured out top-down instructions, I can handle toe-up). Mom's socks are being made out of some lovely periwinkle alpaca/merino with a lace panel up the front. I'll have to post a couple of pics so that anyone reading knows I actually DO knit...I'm just too lazy to take pics after I've worked so hard knitting up projects.

My husband agreed that I should get a spinning wheel (after a little convincing and reminders that he just got a brand-new laptop). I'm really excited to speed up the process as I've just been using an inexpensive Ashford drop spindle. I still don't have enough yarn on that to make anything even after 2 months. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Last night a set aside my knitting/spinning and went out to a bar for the first time in over 2 years. I live in a college town and all my old bar friends have graduated and moved away. It's amazing that the scene is still the same but all of my people have gone. I guess we all have to grow up someday. The music was too loud, my eyes burned from the smoke, and most of the people were obnoxious...so an hour after I'd arrived I gladly left and went home to my husband, my knitting, and lovely sleep. If nothing else I was reminded why I stopped going out and started to stay in.

Sleep Deprivation and Math don't Mix!

I am in the midst of altering a basic lace pattern for a sock cuff for my sister and I have to start out with 108 stitches and decrease to around 80. This is making my brain hurt! As an intermediate knitter with lofty ambitions to expertise I'm a little stumped. Maybe I should just start knitting and play it by ear???? By the way, if anyone out there is reading this, it is my first attempt at a blog, but now that I'm knitting again I find I have a passion to share all of the new information I'm accumulating. I hope someone enjoys my thoughts, jumbled though they be.
